Background and Job Overview
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) leads global efforts to end hunger and improve food security by transforming agrifood systems for better production, nutrition, environment, and livelihoods.
This consultancy is based under FAO’s Subregional Office for the Caribbean (SLC), which supports agriculture, fisheries, and rural development initiatives across 13 Caribbean nations.
The selected consultant will work with the FISH-ADAPT Project, funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and implemented in Saint Lucia. The project focuses on enhancing fisheries safety, improving ecosystem health, and strengthening the resilience and income diversification of over 10,000 direct beneficiaries, while also supporting broader sectors like tourism and coastal management.
Role and Responsibilities
The Communications Specialist will report to the Fisheries and Aquaculture Officer and the Lead Technical Officer for the FISH-ADAPT project. Key responsibilities include:

Developing and implementing communication and outreach strategies for project visibility.

Conducting stakeholder mapping and tailoring messaging for different audiences.

Drafting media content including press releases, web stories, newsletters, and bulletins.

Documenting case studies, impact stories, and project results.

Managing social media campaigns aligned with FAO and GCF standards.

Supervising the design and production of multimedia, digital, and print materials.

Supporting coverage of project events and capacity-building activities.

Ensuring all communication outputs comply with FAO communication policies and clearance procedures.
Minimum Requirements
Education:
-
Advanced university degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.

A Bachelor’s degree may be accepted with two additional years of relevant professional experience.
Experience:
-
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in communications, media relations, or stakeholder engagement.

Experience working on environmental, fisheries, or UN-led projects is an advantage.
Skills:

Proficiency in video, photography, and audio production.

Strong command of Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).

Social media content management experience.
Language:
