The National Youth Service (NYS) has announced the recruitment of 750 positions comprising 250 Cadet Officers and 500 Privates across multiple professional and technical disciplines.

This recruitment targets qualified Kenyan youth seeking permanent and pensionable employment under the NYS establishment.


Open Job Vacancies

Cadet Officers – 250 Posts

The Cadet intake includes:

  • Engineering roles (Structural, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Water)

  • Architecture, Quantity & Land Surveying

  • Finance, Accounting & Audit

  • Supply Chain Management

  • ICT Officers & ICT Assistants

  • Legal Officers

  • Corporate Communication Officers

  • Health professionals (Nurses, Clinical Officers, Laboratory Technologists, Physiotherapists)

  • Agricultural, Veterinary & Hydrology specialists

  • Chaplains

  • General Duty (GD) Cadets – 50 posts

Each position has a specific vacancy reference number (V/No. 1/2026 to V/No. 33/2026) and defined academic and professional registration requirements.


Private Positions – 500 Posts

Private cadre vacancies include:

  • Drivers (70)

  • Plant Operators (80)

  • Masons, Electricians, Carpenters, Plumbers

  • Band Members (30)

  • Agricultural Technicians

  • Secretaries

  • Panel Beaters, Motor Vehicle Mechanics, Welders

  • General Duty (160)

Each private position carries a specific vacancy reference (V/No. 1P/2026 to V/No. 13P/2026).


Terms of Service

  • Employment Status: Permanent & Pensionable

  • Salary & Allowances: As per existing NYS salary scale

  • Medical Cover: SHA Scheme of Civil Servants

  • Mandatory Training: 9 months NYS Paramilitary Training at NYS Training College


General Requirements for All Applicants

Applicants must:

  • Be a Kenyan citizen

  • Be aged 18–28 years

  • Have no criminal record

  • Be medically fit

  • Possess a valid National ID and KRA PIN

  • Hold a certificate in computer applications

  • Meet Chapter Six requirements of the Constitution

Academic Thresholds

  • Cadets: Bachelor’s Degree + minimum KCSE C+

  • Diploma Cadets: Minimum KCSE C-

  • Privates: Minimum KCSE D+ and must possess NYS Discharge Certificate


Professional & Registration Requirements

Several roles require statutory registration, including:

  • Engineers – Registration with Engineers Board of Kenya

  • Surveyors – Registration with Land/Quantity Surveyors Board

  • Supply Chain Officers – Registration with Kenya Institute of Supplies Management (KISM)

  • Legal Officers – LL.B + Postgraduate Diploma in Law + Practicing Certificate from Law Society of Kenya

  • Nurses – Registration with Nursing Council of Kenya

  • Clinical Officers – Registration with Clinical Officers Council

  • Veterinary Officers – Registration with Kenya Veterinary Board

  • Physiotherapists – Registration with Physiotherapy Council of Kenya

  • Laboratory Technologists – Registration with Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board
