UNFCCC–UNU Early Career Climate Fellowship Programme 2026 for Young Professionals (Funded to Bonn, Germany)

Applications are now open for the 2026 UNFCCC–UNU Early Career Climate Fellowship Programme. This prestigious fellowship provides young professionals from developing countries with the opportunity to begin their careers at the intersection of international climate policy, research, and governance.
The programme, jointly organized by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the United Nations University (UNU), takes place in Bonn, Germany. Fellowships may last 12 to 24 months, and selected Fellows will gain invaluable insights into global climate negotiations, international cooperation, and climate research.
Academically outstanding graduates from developing countries—especially women from least developed countries (LDCs)—are strongly encouraged to apply. Upon completion, Fellows will be equipped to pursue careers in their home countries or internationally, leveraging the experience gained in Bonn.
Fellowship Requirements

Must be a national of a developing country (preference for women from least developed countries).

Must hold an advanced degree (Master’s, doctorate, or equivalent) in fields related to climate change, environment, communications, international relations, or other relevant areas.

Applicants may also apply if they are in the final semester of their Master’s or doctorate programme.

Evidence of academic excellence (scholarships, honors, distinctions, etc.) is required.

Applicants with only a Bachelor’s degree are not eligible.

No professional experience is required; candidates with up to two years of work experience may also apply.
