The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) provides administrative and support services to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and UN-Habitat, as well as joint services to other UN organizations in Kenya.
Position: Intern – Infrastructure App Developer

Responsibilities
The selected intern will support the UNON ICT team by:

Contributing to the development and enhancement of custom applications supporting Infrastructure NOC operations.

Maintaining and updating applications built on the React framework for monitoring and reporting.

Developing REST API integrations to connect monitoring platforms, dashboards, and internal tools.

Building and refining Grafana dashboards for real-time ICT infrastructure performance visualization.

Researching and prototyping Large Language Model (LLM)-based solutions (Claude, LLaMA) for onboarding, automation, and knowledge capture.

Supporting AI and IT automation projects, including deployment and optimization of Microsoft Copilot.

Documenting code, integration steps, dashboards, and processes for long-term sustainability.

Participating in infrastructure projects such as automation scripts, dashboard optimization, and VM migration.

Collaborating with engineers and peers to improve monitoring and application ecosystems.

Providing regular updates to supervisors on progress, challenges, and automation opportunities.
Qualifications and Special Skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

Currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program in ICT, Computer Science, or a related area.

Enrolled in the final academic year of a degree program in ICT or a related field.

In education systems without undergraduate/graduate divisions: at least three years of full-time university study toward an ICT degree.
