Académie de Recherche et d’Enseignement Supérieur (ARES) 2026 Travel Scholarships

The Académie de recherche et d’enseignement supérieur (ARES) is now accepting applications for the 2026 Travel Scholarships. These scholarships provide students with the opportunity to gain international mobility experience in one of ARES’ 31 partner countries across Africa, South America, and Asia by carrying out research or completing an internship abroad.
Goal of the Travel Scholarships
The program is designed to:

Enable students to conduct research (dissertation/final project) or complete an internship in a host institution abroad.

Provide valuable intercultural experiences.

Strengthen global citizenship and international collaboration.
Eligible Countries
Partner countries include: South Africa, Benin, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cuba, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Haiti, Indonesia, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, Mozambique, Nepal, Niger, Uganda, Peru, Philippines, Palestinian Territory, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Republic of Guinea, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, Tunisia, Vietnam, and Zimbabwe.
Duration

Minimum 30 calendar days.

Departure must take place between 1 January and 31 August 2026.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:

Be enrolled in a Bachelor’s (with at least 120 credits earned), Master’s (MA), or Specialized Master’s (MS) degree program.

Have institutional authorisation and comply with instructions for mobility.

Ensure the stay is credited in ECTS, either through a dissertation, final project, or internship.

Be applying for the first time in their current study cycle.

Have a contract/agreement between the student, their home institution, and the host organisation.
Scholarship Benefits
-
Travel allowance to help cover airfare.

Supplementary allowance for students already receiving a study allowance from the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.

A personalised cover letter.

A transcript of grades from the most recently completed academic year.

A signed letter of recommendation from the academic supervisor in Belgium.
Timeline

24 November – 5 December 2025: Selection of scholarship recipients.

From 9 December 2025: Notification of selection results.

1 January – 31 August 2026: Mobility programmes begin.
