AI Policy
1. Introduction
Global South Opportunities Kenya (“we”, “us”, or “our”) is an online platform that publishes verified scholarships, fellowships, internships, jobs, grants, conferences, and training opportunities for individuals from developing regions across the world.
We collect and publish opportunities from universities, international organizations, government institutions, nonprofit agencies, and recognized global programs. Our audience includes students, graduates, researchers, and professionals seeking education funding, career development, and global exposure.
To serve you better, we use Artificial Intelligence. This policy explains how, why, and where we use AI.
2. How We Use AI
AI helps us perform four core functions. Each one is designed to save you time and protect you from scams.
2.1 Opportunity Matching
When you search our platform or browse opportunities, AI analyzes your stated interests, past clicks, and saved items to recommend relevant scholarships, jobs, or fellowships.
The AI does not hide opportunities from you. It simply ranks them. You can always see all opportunities by browsing normally.
2.2 Scam and Fraud Detection
Fake scholarships and job scams target students from developing regions. We take this seriously.
AI scans every opportunity before it is published. It looks for:
-
Requests for application fees or payment
-
Suspicious email domains
-
Unrealistic benefits or promises
-
Language patterns common in known scams
If AI flags an opportunity, a human reviews it. Nothing is removed automatically.
2.3 Content Summarization
Some scholarship and fellowship announcements are very long. AI generates short summaries so you can quickly decide if an opportunity interests you.
You can always click through to read the full original announcement from the source organization.
2.4 Search Enhancement
AI helps our search engine understand what you mean. If you search for “PhD funding” and an opportunity says “doctoral scholarship”, AI connects the two. You find more relevant results.
3. What AI Does NOT Do
We set clear boundaries. AI does NOT:
-
Make final decisions. No robot decides who gets a scholarship or job. That decision belongs to the funding organization or employer.
-
Apply on your behalf. AI does not submit applications for you.
-
Read your private data. We do not use AI to scan your emails, messages, or personal documents.
-
Track you across other websites. We do not use AI for surveillance or cross-site tracking.
-
Create fake opportunities. AI helps detect fakes. It does not generate them.
-
Evaluate your eligibility. AI may highlight opportunities you match, but it does not determine if you qualify.
4. What Data AI Processes
AI needs information to do its job. Here is exactly what it accesses:
From opportunities (scholarships, jobs, fellowships, etc.):
-
Title and description
-
Eligibility requirements
-
Application deadline
-
Funding amount (if stated)
-
Host organization name
-
Location or country
From your activity:
-
Opportunities you click on or save
-
Search terms you enter
-
Filters you apply (country, field of study, deadline)
What AI does NOT access:
-
Your name or email address (unless you voluntarily provide them in a saved profile)
-
Your password or login credentials
-
Your payment information
-
Your messages to us or to opportunity providers
-
Your documents (CV, transcripts, etc.)
5. Third-Party AI Services
We use trusted third-party AI services for specific tasks. We do not build everything from scratch.
| Feature | Service Type | What Data is Shared |
|---|---|---|
| Summarization | Cloud AI API | Opportunity description text only |
| Scam detection | Custom AI model | Opportunity title, description, contact details |
| Search enhancement | Open source model (on our servers) | Search terms and opportunity text |
Protections we enforce:
-
We never share your personal contact information with AI providers
-
All third-party services sign data protection agreements
-
Data sent to third parties is deleted immediately after processing
-
We do not use AI providers who train their models on customer data
6. Your Rights
You have control over how AI affects your experience.
6.1 Opt Out of Personalization
You can disable AI-powered recommendations in your account settings. You will still see all opportunities, but they will not be ranked based on your activity.
6.2 Human Review
If you believe AI made a mistake (for example, a legitimate scholarship was flagged as a scam), email us. A human will review the decision within 48 hours.
6.3 Explanation
You can ask why AI recommended or did not recommend certain opportunities.
6.4 Data Deletion
You may request deletion of your activity data from our AI systems.
7. Text and Data Mining Prohibited
The content on Global South Opportunities Kenya is our work product. We spend hours finding, verifying, and formatting opportunities for you.
You may not scrape or crawl our site for AI training.
Specifically prohibited:
-
Training large language models on our opportunity listings
-
Building competing opportunity platforms using our data
-
Bulk downloading our content for any commercial AI purpose
-
Using our verified opportunities to populate another database without permission
We use technical measures including rate limiting and bot detection to enforce this. Unauthorized scraping is a breach of these terms and may result in legal action.
8. Discovery Endpoints for AI Systems
AI systems, search crawlers, and retrieval tools can discover our content through the following standardized entry points:
| Endpoint | Purpose |
|---|---|
/llms.txt |
Site overview and content access guide for AI models |
/feed |
RSS feed of latest opportunities (scholarships, jobs, fellowships) |
/sitemap.xml |
Full sitemap listing all content pages on GSO Kenya |
These endpoints are designed for machine consumption. They provide structured access to our verified opportunities without requiring HTML scraping.
Guidelines for using these endpoints:
-
Identify your crawler with a descriptive User-Agent string
-
Limit requests to 1 per second
-
Cache responses respectfully using our Cache-Control headers
-
Always include attribution and a link back to the original opportunity page when citing our content
Prohibited uses of these endpoints:
-
Training large language models on our full dataset without permission
-
Republishing our entire opportunity database elsewhere
-
Using our content to build a competing platform
9. Accuracy and Limitations
AI is helpful but not perfect.
It may:
-
Recommend an opportunity that is not a perfect fit for your profile
-
Miss a sophisticated scam that a human would catch
-
Summarize an announcement and leave out a minor but important detail
It will not:
-
Intentionally hide opportunities from you
-
Favour certain organizations or countries over others
-
Discriminate based on your background, nationality, or field of study
Your responsibility: Always read the full opportunity announcement before applying. Verify deadlines and requirements. Never pay money to apply for a scholarship or job.
10. Accuracy of AI-Generated Summaries
Our AI-generated summaries are intended as quick guides, not replacements for original announcements.
If a summary contains an error, we will correct it promptly when notified.
11. Changes to This Policy
AI technology evolves quickly. This policy may be updated as our platform grows.
If we make material changes (for example, introducing AI-powered eligibility checking or automated application assistance), we will:
-
Notify you by email (if you have an account)
-
Post a notice on our website
-
Update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page
Continued use of GSO after changes means you accept the updated policy.
