NAIROBI, Kenya – Amnesty International Kenya has announced an opening for a Program Intern to support human rights programs across the country. The position offers hands-on experience in research, project coordination, and advocacy work within one of the world’s largest human rights organizations.

The internship is based in Nairobi and reports to the Head of Programmes. Successful candidates will gain practical exposure to human rights programming while contributing to Amnesty’s mission of promoting and protecting fundamental freedoms in Kenya.

About the Program Internship

Amnesty International Kenya is part of a global movement of more than ten million people who work to confront injustice and human rights violations. The Program Intern will provide administrative, research, and logistical support across a broad portfolio of human rights work related to social justice, governance, and the protection of fundamental freedoms.

Main Responsibilities

The Program Intern will be expected to:

  • Conduct desk research and literature reviews on various human rights issues to support policy briefs and campaign strategies

  • Monitor national news and human rights trends to provide timely updates to program teams

  • Assist in preparing and formatting project reports, activity summaries, and donor updates

  • Support the coordination of logistics for workshops, training sessions, and public activities

  • Help design knowledge products on human rights topics

  • Provide administrative support during field missions and community activities

  • Assist with scheduling, calendar management, and preparation for high-level meetings

Required Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

  • Recent graduate in Human Rights, Law, Social Sciences, International Relations, or a related field

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Kiswahili

  • Strong organizational and administrative skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and digital collaboration tools

  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving

  • Ability to work effectively within a diverse, multi-cultural team environment

  • Commitment to Amnesty International’s values and objectives

Desirable Attributes:

  • Previous experience volunteering or interning in an NGO or human rights context

  • Basic understanding of the Kenyan human rights landscape
