The World Trade Organization (WTO) Young Trade Leaders Programme 2026 is now accepting applications from exceptional young people around the world. This initiative, launched in 2024, aims to build a global network of young leaders who can bring fresh perspectives to international trade while deepening their understanding of the WTO’s work and mission.
Selected candidates will have the opportunity to engage directly with the WTO, contribute to trade-related discussions, and participate in the annual WTO Public Forum in Geneva.
What Is the WTO Young Trade Leaders Programme?
The WTO Young Trade Leaders Programme was created to establish a closer link between young people and the World Trade Organization. The initiative seeks individuals who demonstrate a clear understanding of how trade can benefit both people and the planet.
Young Trade Leaders serve as bridges between the WTO and youth communities worldwide. They bring new ideas about the role of trade and the WTO while gaining firsthand experience of the organization’s operations and contributing to its mission.

Please note: Young Trade Leaders do not receive remuneration, but travel to Geneva for the Public Forum is covered.
Eligibility Requirements
The WTO Young Trade Leaders Programme is open to young people worldwide who meet the following criteria:

Aged between 18 and 28 years at the time of application

Demonstrate a strong interest in international trade and the work of the WTO

Show understanding of how trade can contribute to sustainable development and global well-being

Possess excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with diverse audiences

Commit to actively participating in programme activities throughout the one-year term
The programme welcomes applicants from all backgrounds, nationalities, and academic disciplines. Previous experience in trade policy is not required, but candidates should demonstrate genuine curiosity and engagement with trade-related issues.
What Young Trade Leaders Do
Selected participants serve a one-year term during which they:
