MACHAKOS, Kenya – The Machakos County Public Service Board has announced a major recruitment drive to fill ninety-four job vacancies across various departments. The positions are offered on permanent and pensionable terms and span engineering, health services, mechanical operations, environmental management, and technical support roles.

Engineering and Roads Department

The County is seeking thirteen Engineering Technicians specializing in Roads, ten Senior Engineers, and ten Engineers Grade II for Roads. Additional engineering vacancies include five Principal Engineers for Roads, five Land Surveyors, and five Land Surveyor Assistants. Two Senior Principal Engineers for Roads are also being recruited.

In the Mechanical and Transport section, the county seeks two Mechanical Engineers Grade II, one Engineering Technician Grade I for Automotive, and one Principal Engineering Technician for Automotive.

Mechanical and Artisan Roles

For mechanical and artisan positions, the county is recruiting nine Artisan Mechanical Grade III specializing in panel beating, spray painting, and upholstery. Three Artisan Auto-Electrician Grade III positions for motor vehicle and plant equipment are available, along with three general Artisan Mechanical posts.

Health Services Department

The health department requires four Medical Officers, three Nursing Officers, one Medical Laboratory Officer, one Optometrist, and one Medical Engineering Technologist.

Environment Department

The environment department is recruiting five Environment and Natural Resources Officers.

Sample Job Requirements

Engineering Technician III – Roads

This is an entry and training grade position. Duties include collecting and collating roads infrastructure data, participating in road project inspections, conducting site investigations, materials testing, and preparing daily inspection reports.

Requirements include a Diploma in Civil Engineering or Highway Engineering from a recognized institution, proficiency in computer applications, and registration with the Kenya Engineering Technology Registration Board as a Candidate Engineering Technician.

Senior Engineer – Roads

Applicants must hold a Bachelor of Science or Engineering degree in Civil Engineering or Civil and Structural Engineering. A minimum of six years of experience is required, along with registration with the Engineers Board of Kenya as a graduate engineer.

Nursing Officers

Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or Midwifery and a registration certificate issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya.

Optometrist

Duties include conducting comprehensive eye tests, checking visual acuity, testing for refractive errors, prescribing eyeglasses and contact lenses, and screening for conditions like glaucoma and cataracts. Requirements include a Diploma in Optometry from a recognized institution, a Registration Certificate issued by the Medical Board of Kenya, a valid practicing license from the Medical Board of Kenya, and a certificate in computer application skills.

Medical Laboratory Officer

Duties include receiving and scrutinizing laboratory requisition forms and specimens, preparing laboratory reagents, examining specimens, and recording results. Requirements include a Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or equivalent recognized by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board, registration certificate from KMLTTB, a valid practicing license from KMLTTB, and a certificate in computer application skills.

Mechanical Engineer Grade II

This is an entry and training grade position. Duties include preparing designs and drawings for manufacturing mechanical components, fabricating tools and equipment, repairing and maintaining vehicles and plant equipment, and carrying out inspections and testing. Requirements include a Bachelor of Science or Engineering Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical and Production Engineering, or Mechatronics Engineering, registration with the Engineering Board of Kenya as a graduate engineer, and proficiency in computer applications.

Medical Engineering Technologist

Duties include undertaking preventive maintenance and repairs of medical equipment, requisitioning spare parts, taking inventory of medical equipment, and implementing medical engineering programs. Requirements include a Diploma in Medical Engineering or equivalent from a recognized institution and a certificate in computer application skills.
