Call for Scholarship Applications for the 2026/2027 Academic Year

Egerton University, one of Kenya’s oldest and most respected institutions of higher learning, is inviting applications for scholarships under the Transforming African Agricultural Universities to Meaningfully Contribute to Africa’s Growth and Development (TAGDev 2.0) Programme. This initiative aims to equip young women and men with industry-relevant skills, foster entrepreneurship, and address unemployment through innovative agricultural education and research.


About TAGDev 2.0 at Egerton University

Egerton University has a rich history of driving innovation in agricultural education and research. As a key partner in the TAGDev 2.0 programme, the university is committed to transforming agricultural education to meet the needs of the continent. Through interdisciplinary programmes, experiential learning approaches, and strategic collaborations with stakeholders, Egerton University will play a central role in achieving the programme’s ambitious targets.

TAGDev 2.0 Goals at Egerton University:

  • Skill at least 10,500 young women and men in agricultural and related fields

  • Expand work opportunities to impact 25,000 young women and men

  • Support the establishment of 75 startups driven by young entrepreneurs

  • Validate and scale at least 15 climate-adaptive technologies, innovations, and management practices to reach 68,500 smallholder farmers in Kenya

  • Plant at least 950,000 trees as part of environmental sustainability efforts

The university is particularly keen on promoting inclusivity for marginalized groups, including persons with disabilities, refugees, and out-of-school youth, in its efforts to improve livelihoods and drive inclusive development in Kenya.


Eligible Programmes

Scholarships are available for the following undergraduate and postgraduate programmes for the 2026/2027 academic year:

Undergraduate Programmes (Bachelor’s Degree)

  • Bachelor of Science in Agriculture

  • Bachelor of Science in Natural Resources Management

  • Bachelor of Science in Animal Science

Postgraduate Programmes (Master’s Degree)

  • Master of Science in Horticulture

  • Master of Science in Agribusiness Management

  • Master of Science in Food Science


Scholarship Benefits

Selected scholars will receive financial support covering:

  • Full tuition fees for the duration of the programme

  • Stipend for living expenses (amount to be confirmed upon award)

  • Access to experiential learning opportunities, mentorship, and industry attachments

  • Support for entrepreneurship and innovation activities

Specific details of the scholarship package will be provided to successful applicants.


Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a Kenyan citizen or a refugee residing in Kenya

  • Meet the admission requirements for the chosen programme at Egerton University

  • For undergraduate programmes: have a minimum of C+ (plus) in KCSE or equivalent qualification

  • For master’s programmes: hold a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with at least an upper second class honors or equivalent

  • Demonstrate a commitment to contributing to agricultural development, entrepreneurship, or community development

  • Priority will be given to applicants from marginalized groups, including persons with disabilities, refugees, and youth from disadvantaged backgrounds


Application Procedure

Interested candidates should follow these steps:

  1. Apply for Admission to Egerton University

    • Submit an application for admission to the desired programme through the Egerton University admissions portal.

    • Indicate on the application that you are applying for the TAGDev 2.0 Scholarship.

  2. Submit Scholarship Application

    • Complete the TAGDev 2.0 scholarship application form available on the Egerton University website.

    • Attach copies of academic certificates, transcripts, national ID or passport, and any supporting documents (e.g., proof of disability, refugee status, or other relevant documents).

  3. Deadline

    • All applications must be submitted by 30 April 2026. Applicants are advised to check the Egerton University website for any updates.


Selection Process

Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee based on:

  • Academic merit

  • Relevance of the chosen programme to TAGDev objectives

  • Demonstrated interest in agriculture, entrepreneurship, and community development

  • Commitment to contributing to inclusive development

Shortlisted candidates may be called for an interview.
